Bronzes - Special Order
Ancient Chinese Bronzes were produced under the social conditions dictated by the age, undergoing a lengthy course of development and changes. Bronzes were first produced in the prehistoric period, before 2200 BD, and consisted of a few small tools and decorative pieces. During the Xia period, the Chinese bronze emerged in the form of basic wine and food vessels. It then underwent a long period of development during the Shang period, and from 1400-1200 BC the art of the Chinese bronze was at its height, often featuring realistic or imaginary animal designs. Later, as the influence of the Shang culture gradually disappeared, bronze art was transformed over several centuries to embody Zhou decorative values.
